Sunshine State began as a therapy session between two friends: singer Aleza and guitarist/producer James Bryan. Sharing the ups and downs of being a single young woman in the city (Toronto) with her good friend, the duo turned experience into musical inspiration. Influenced by everything from Bossa nova to New Order and Feist, Sunshine State has an acoustic sound that’s totally fresh and infectious, writing songs that try to make sense of modern life and love.

With a brilliant live show that combines Aleza’s magnetic sweet-yet-smoldering persona with James’ electrifying guitar work, the duo quickly won loyal fans and a strong industry buzz.  Most recently remixes of the fan favorite “Day Job were released internationally on DJ John Kong’s Do Right label, which quickly sold out in Japan. Their self titled debut CD was released in May 2007 receiving rave reviews in both mainstream and underground press resulting in the nationwide release of “Day Job” on the highly acclaimed 2007 Honey Jam Compilation (Universal).

Always autobiographical, what often starts off as a tearful tirade ends up getting soothed by the happy strains of a guitar refrain, and the comfort of friendship, and that’s where the name Sunshine State comes in: It’s a state of mind we all aspire to but seldom reach, the place where love and happiness finally meet.
